About Public Hearings
Public consultation is an important part of a committee inquiry. Parliamentary committees hold hearings to hear from people with experience or expertise relevant to an inquiry.
Public hearings are generally recorded in a written transcript to provide the committee an accurate record of the proceedings.
Members of the public are welcome to come and listen. Registering to attend a public hearing helps inform the committee secretariat of facilities requirements at the venue.
You can also express an interest in speaking at the hearing. Generally, each scheduled participant will have an opportunity to share some comments before committee members ask questions.
Allocated speaking opportunities are limited. If you are allocated a short speaking opportunity (of around 3 minutes) during the open session, the committee secretariat will contact you and confirm a scheduled time slot.
Please also be aware that you may be filmed or photographed while participating in the public hearing.
